Selfie (2014)

Image
You can call this is a silent Christmas wish, but it's not particularly quiet in its nature. When I heard of Selfie and saw a clip, I did make a nose crinkle and thought 'meh'. However I suddenly caught up on an episode and was impressed by the nature of the show. This isn't Zoey Dechanel cute , this is actually cute and funny in a very clever way.  Karen Gillan  is Eliza Dooley who is popular online with loads of followers (instagram etc), but when an embarrassing incident takes place she reevaluates how people view her, requiring assistance from another colleague Henry Higgs played by  John Cho .  This is a modern version of the classic ' My Fair Lady ' where Henry Higgins learns Eliza Doolittle, a girl selling flowers on the street to become more lady-like in her speech. However in this version Eliza requires Henry to help her learn to become a better person, and it's not only her who gets an internal makeover. Every supporting character in the sho...

The Santa Clause (1994)

Number nine on my list is a film that just makes me exceedingly weepy, then again, so do the majority of festive  films.  Tim Allen  plays Scott Calvin who works with toys for a living and occasionally has his son Charlie over (though not happily). All of it changes one Christmas Eve when Charlie hears a clatter  and suddenly they both find a man in a red suit on the roof. Unfortunately the man in the suit falls off the roof, and this is where our film begins. The pair of them have supposedly a rather vivid dream, but is Scott really becoming Santa Claus? You've probably seen it. They always put it on during Christmas, and it's loathed by many apparently. I'm afraid I like my cheesy Christmas films, especially with Tim the Tool man Taylor. It just inhabits a rather spirited holiday feel, and yet again, santa. Santa is cool man, let me love santa. Also Bernard. Bernard is love ( David Krumholtz ).  Memorable Quote: Seeing isn't believing. Believing i...

Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

Image
Ho ho ho!  Oh, where have you been Emilie? Exams - no internet - (grinds teeth) it's been a riot more or less. Luckily I am returning for a brief venture into the frosty holiday that makes people either bitter or jolly, depending on the state of their family and friends, of course, ho ho - - - ho . Let's brush off the grim grinch-like behavior and pretend that Christmas is more than just capitalism disguised in a red coat with a white fur lining (no polar bears were harmed...possibly?). Kidding aside. Christmas has almost meant one very important thing, to me - television. The majority of my holidays were always spent marveling over the awesomeness on the screen. Brimming of family films and children friendly comedies. So let me gush over my personal favourites for the next ten days with a countdown! 10. Miracle on 34th Street Richard Attenborough  was like a second-grandfather to me (watch Jurassic Park ). Consistently having a twinkle in his eye and making me...
