(Spoilers for s01e07) Claire and Jamie get married, all because of ' Black Jack Randall' who would otherwise have the liberty to question her. And the episode begins at the end of the ceremony, an unexpected start, but a good one really. The build up of the episode is a rather interesting one, than the straight-forward narrative in the book, as they insert humour with little flashbacks to Jamie's three requests (besides Claire's own day).  Of course they often return to the scene of two people getting to know each other, forced to consummate the proceedings, which aren't wholly perfected of course. The scenes are much more realistic than much else that's on display these days, and that's saying something.  We've all been rooting for the pairing despite the various obstacles - and I suspect most have since Jamie threatened to throw her over his shoulder and carry her. Film: The Thing (1982)

Kurt Russell is hot, pass it on (spoiler-ish) "You gotta be fuckin´ kidding." Tense and surprisingly real - The Thing really caught me by surprise in terms of pacing, though with John Carpenter being in the director's chair I shouldn't have been shocked by the sheer elegance, briefly seen in Halloween . A team of American scientists out on Antarctica live quietly enough, until one day a bunch of Norwegians appear in a helicopter shooting after some dog, shouting " It's not really a dog, we have to kill it - don't invite the thing in!"  Apparently back in 1982 Norwegians didn't know English, so the poor unsuspecting Americans put a bullet into the one guy who seems to be bearing a pretty sensible warning.  This is of course where our story begins.  It's clear that this time round Carpenter has more cash to spend in terms of special effects and scenery, which is much more convincing and gore-filled compared to Halloween (I...

Die Hard: With A Vengeance (1995)

I can smell the sweat Yes. Yes. I had rules. No repeats, but I don't have any hay fever medicine left so I'm silently suffering through what will potentially be ' a very bad day '. Also I dreamt that I sat in a bus that drove past Samuel L Jackson. IT WAS A SIGN that my subconscious really needs to watch John McClane ( Bruce Willis ) turn all bloody in his wife-beater besides Zeus Carver ( Samuel L. Jackson ) being indignant.  I don't know why this is one of my favourites. Not that Die Hard isn't wonderful, but that's a given. This is my other fave, but I suspect the team up is one of the main reasons. The real action as well. That's what I love about nineties action films.
