The Thieving Scoundrel
"Don't shoot first Han." |
Leia and Rapunzel are kind of similar, except the former didn't have to spend her life trapped by Mother Gothel in a tower or, well, trapped by the Emperor (she even gets all old in a cloak, come on). They still argue a lot with their reluctant helper who's just really here for the money/crown, but helping despite it, and kind of freaking out over their others powers (aka Han's face at 'he's my brother!'). I could be dragging lots of parallells really, or just spend the majority of the article pointing out how soft Han really is. He spends after all the majority of the films saying he's just looking out for himself and he won't get involved, but he's all over the place helping out.
We don't know how many months he spent on that God-forsaken pit of cold ice, but we know that he probably spent it wondering how Leia felt about him. He couldn't even leave until he knew she'd safely boarded a ship, prompting him to take her along in the end, which he didn't even put up a fight about (for obvious reasons). It wasn't until they'd gotten to Lando's place that you can see Leia's finally being honest to herself, hanging on his arm, and so forth, the affection is at play. The pair had shared a kiss after all, where she revealed she happened to like nice men, and we all really know that Han is just pretending to be an uncaring ass.
But of course there's that wonderful 'I love you' and 'I know'. You see - so many think this is a 'oh he's so cool' moment. No, it's not. You know what this is? This is a guy who's been hanging around knowing that this Princess who shouldn't care about him at all does, but she's just been in downright denial about her feelings. He's just been waiting, and despite acknowledging his patience was wearing thin - threatening to leave Hoth - he still couldn't leave her behind. Of course he knows she's in love with him, he's been in love with her from the very beginning.
Basically, Leia is Han's dream, let's be real.
